Why is the Army privatizing lodging?
By engaging private industry, the United States Army is committing to the revitalization and sustainment of its transient lodging accommodations.

Decades of failure to invest in its lodging facilities has left the Army with revitalization backlog which we have been told is fast approaching $1 billion. The Army has recognized that due to funding constraints it would take in excess of 20 years to bring the on-post hotels to an acceptable quality level on its own.

Through the PAL program, the Army is able to address immediate concerns and ensure adequate long-term sustainment of on-post lodging facilities.

Transferring hotel operations and management responsibilities to the private sector allows the Army to focus on its primary mission and provide the quality accommodations that soldiers and their families deserve.

Who is IHG and what do we do?
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms. IHG franchises, leases, manages or owns, through various subsidiaries, over 4,500 hotels and more than 650,000 guest rooms in 100 countries and territories around the world. The Group owns a portfolio of well recognized and respected hotel brands including:

Will I be guaranteed a job with IHG?
IHG will need many qualified employees to operate hotels on Army posts. We would like to staff the hotels on Army posts with current Army lodging employees. Though we cannot guarantee employment to every Army lodging employee, we hope many will apply since we believe you know the needs of the soldiers and their families.

Will IHG replace us with employees from the outside?
We believe that the current Army lodging employees have been taking care of the soldiers and their families and therefore know what is important to them. We also have criteria that are important to IHG, which we'll share with you and be looking for during the application and interview process. We would prefer to find employees who meet our qualifications and who also have your knowledge and experience rather than bring employees in from the outside that don't have that experience. If we don't have enough qualified employees to operate our hotels we may need to hire additional persons from the outside.

Will my salary or wage change with IHG?
IHG believes in paying competitive wages in the markets in which we operate. IHG will be conducting wage research for the markets in which the Army posts are located to determine wages. Since the wages in the markets as well as your wages are likely to change before IHG takes over, we'll be conducting this wage research as we get closer to the transition.

Will IHG honor my seniority or will I have to start over?
In recognition of your dedication as an employee of Army Lodging, IHG will honor your length of service as an employee with Army Lodging in determining your seniority. For example, if you have 5 years of service with Army Lodging and you are hired by IHG, we'll record your seniority so you'll show 5 years of service with IHG, even though you'll never have previously been an IHG employee. Some of IHG benefits, such as vacation, are tied to length of service. With this seniority, you'll be eligible for those benefits associated with the longer length of service.

What benefits does IHG offer?
IHG offers competitive benefits programs. Further, IHG believes in offering our employees choices in benefits to meet their individual needs. Click here to learn about the benefits that will be available Army lodging employees.

What jobs will IHG be hiring for?
IHG will need many employees to help us operate the hotels. We anticipate hiring for positions in Housekeeping, Front Desk/Front Office, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, Laundry, Transportation, and Administration. Further, we'll be hiring for management and supervisory positions. The specific jobs and the number of available positions will vary in the different Army posts.

How will I know what jobs will be available?
IHG wants all current Army Lodging employees to be able to post for the jobs available with IHG. Therefore, we'll be posting all the IHG jobs available in Army lodging for each Army installation. Since some employees like the ease of applying online, we'll post the jobs electronically on one of our websites. However, since all employees don't have access to computers, we'll also be posting the available jobs in the Army Lodging facilities on the posts. We anticipate we will be able to inform you of the jobs that will be available the Spring of 2011. We will be letting you know where the jobs will be posted.

If I work for Army Lodging do I still need to apply?

Yes. Working for IHG will not be automatic since some may choose other career options rather than working for IHG and others may not meet IHG qualifications. Therefore, all current Army Lodging employees who want to work with IHG will need to apply so we know who is interested.
Any current Army Lodging employee that applies to work with IHG will be guaranteed an interview.

How do I apply for a job with IHG?
Applying with IHG will be simple. We'll only be asking you to submit an application packet. You may apply online via this website. Printed application forms are available upon request. The forms will be easy to complete and assistance will be available to those who may need some help with the forms. The application procedures will be communicated along with the positions available starting in the Spring of 2011. All prospective employees will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug testing.

Any current Army Lodging employee that applies to work with IHG will be guaranteed an interview. Once we receive your completed application, we'll set up a screening interview. This will be your opportunity to let us know about your skills, knowledge, abilities, and experience.

When will IHG start accepting applications and interviewing?
Jobs will be posted and applications will be accepted in the Spring of 2011. We will begin the interview process in the late Spring/Summer of 2011.

Will I be trained for my position with IHG?
Yes. We'll start by training the managers in the IHG way of operating our hotels. Then we'll be conducting training on IHG brand standards, IHG operational standards, Human Resources policies and procedures, as well as many other topics at the hotels on post in the late Spring/Summer of 2011 leading up to the start of IHG operations.

What is it like to work for IHG?

What are the vacation benefits with IHG?
IHG offers a paid vacation benefit for employees to rejuvenate and re-energize. Employees earn vacation hours each pay period based on hours worked and the amount of vacation that can be earned increases with length of service with the Company.

It is important to note, since IHG will give you seniority based on your service with Army Lodging, you may be earning vacation at higher rates.

Subject to local laws, an employee may carryover up to a maximum of 40 hours of vacation to the next calendar year. Unused vacation is paid out upon termination.

Does IHG offer paid sick time?
IHG offers Personal Time instead of Sick Time. Personal time is paid time off that can be used at the employee's discretion for personal or family illnesses, important personal business, special observances, and any other reason. Personal Time is more flexible than sick time since it can be used for any personal business and is not limited just to employees' own illnesses.

Personal Time is earned each pay period based on hours worked. Employees may continue to earn and carry forward from year to year up to 96 hours of Personal Time. Personal Time is in addition to vacation benefits.

Will IHG provide uniforms?
Yes. All employees will be provided with comfortable, easy to maintain uniforms to perform their work duties.
