![]() Who is IHG and what do we do? IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) is one of the world’s largest hotel groups by number of rooms. IHG owns, manages, leases or franchises, through various subsidiaries, almost 4,000 hotels and more than 590,000 guest rooms in nearly 100 countries and territories around the world.
IHG will need many qualified employees to operate the hotels on Army posts. We would like to staff the IHG Army Hotels with current Army Lodging employees. Though we cannot guarantee employment to every Army Lodging employee, we hope that many will apply since they already have experience in meeting the needs of the Soldiers and their Families.
We believe that the current Army Lodging employees have been doing a great job of taking care of Soldiers and their Families and therefore already know what is important to them. We also have criteria that are important to IHG, which we will share with you and be looking for during the application and interview process. We would prefer to find existing Army Lodging employees who meet our qualifications and who also have your knowledge and experience; however, where we find qualifications and skills needed from others, we will hire additional persons from the outside.
IHG believes in paying competitive wages in the markets in which we operate. IHG has conducted wage research for the markets in which the Army posts are located to determine wage ranges for each position. Since the wages in the markets as well as your wages are likely to change before IHG assumes operations, we will continue to conduct this wage research and update as appropriate as we get closer to completing the transition.
In recognition of every existing employee's dedication to Army Lodging, IHG will honor your length of service as an employee with Army Lodging in determining your seniority. For example, if you have five years of service with Army Lodging and you are hired by IHG, we will record your seniority so you will show five years of service with IHG, even though you will never have previously been an IHG employee. Some of IHG’s benefits, such as vacation, are tied to length of service. With this seniority, you will be eligible for those benefits associated with the longer length of service.
IHG offers competitive benefits programs. Further, IHG believes in offering our employees choices in benefits to meet their individual needs. Click here to learn about the benefits that will be available to Army Lodging employees that are hired by IHG.
IHG will need many employees to help us operate the hotels. We anticipate hiring for positions in Housekeeping, Front Desk/Front Office, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, Laundry, Transportation, and Administration. Further, we will be hiring for management and supervisory positions. The specific jobs and the number of available positions will vary at each of the different Army posts.
IHG wants all current Army Lodging employees to be able to apply for the jobs available with IHG. Therefore, we will post all IHG jobs available in the IHG Army Hotels portfolio for each installation included in the program. Since some employees like the ease of applying online, we have posted the available positions electronically on this website and will also post them in Army Lodging buildings starting in the summer of 2009.
Yes. Working for IHG will not be automatic since some may choose other career options rather than working for IHG and others may have skill sets and experience that do not exactly meet IHG qualifications. Therefore, all current Army Lodging employees who want to work with IHG will need to apply so we know who is interested. All current Army Lodging employees that apply to work with IHG will be guaranteed an interview.
Applying with IHG will be simple. We will only ask you to submit an application packet. The forms will be easy to complete and assistance will be available to those who may need help with the forms starting in the summer of 2009. All prospective employees will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug testing. Any current Army Lodging employee that applies to work with IHG will be guaranteed an interview. Once we receive your completed application, we will set up a screening interview. This will be your opportunity to let us know about your skills, knowledge, abilities, and experience.
We have posted jobs and are currently accepting applications. We will begin the interview process in the summer of 2009.
Yes. We will start by training the managers in the IHG way of operating our hotels. Then we will be conducting training on IHG brand standards, IHG operational standards, Human Resources policies and procedures, as well as many other topics at the hotels.
IHG is a great place to work. First, we operate from a set of values that guides how we work with our employees and our guests. These guideposts are called Winning Ways and they are: Do the right thing, Show we care, Aim higher, Celebrate difference, and Work better together. Click here to learn more about Winning Ways and what it means at work. Click here to learn more about IHG and our commitment.
IHG offers a paid vacation benefit for employees to rejuvenate and re-energize. Employees earn vacation hours each pay period based on hours worked and the amount of vacation that can be earned increases with length of service. The chart below shows how much vacation time is earned per year.
It is important to note that since IHG will give you seniority based on your length of service with Army Lodging, you may be earning vacation at the higher rates. Subject to local laws, an employee may carryover up to a maximum of 40 hours of vacation to the next calendar year. Unused vacation is paid out upon turnover.
IHG offers Personal Time instead of Sick Time. Personal Time is paid time off that can be used at the employee’s discretion for personal or family illnesses, important personal business, special observances, and any other reason. Personal Time is more flexible than sick time since it can be used for any personal business and is not limited just to employees’ own illnesses. Personal Time is earned each pay period based on hours worked. Employees may continue to earn and carry forward from year to year up to 96 hours of Personal Time. Personal Time is in addition to vacation benefits.
Yes. Employees will be provided with uniforms that are comfortable and easy to clean. Also, the uniforms will stylishly incorporate a military theme.
IHG encourages employees to attend continuing education programs to develop current talents and promote professional development. There are numerous training and certification programs that are available to employees today. For example, IHG Talent Development & Learning (TD&L) has partnered with Cornell University to offer eCornell. There are also over 57 online courses in 5 Series, offering 17 certificates from Cornell University.
IHG is a family friendly employer and does allow
family members to work in the same hotel. However, IHG policy prohibits
family members working in the following situations:
In the online application process, we do request
an email address as an effective way of corresponding with applicants.
We don't distinguish between a personal or work email address; we simply
need an email address to be able to best correspond with the applicant
on initial matters. It is up to the applicant to decide which email is
appropriate. The information obtained through the online application will
not be shared outside the company without the consent of the applicant
(for example, for a background and/or reference check).
